-The UST faculty of medicine Graduate is expected to demonstrate the mastering of cognitive/knowledge, attitude, and psychomotor competencies, which are subdivided into twelve domains:

The Program Learning Objectives (PLOs)

The graduate is expected to master the six chief competencies  :

1-Medical Knowledge (Kn) /Cognitive comptenencies

The student  must demonstrate the knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, epidemiological and social-behavioral sciences, as well as the application of this knowledge to patient care.

Knowledge

  1. Show understanding of the knoweldge of the normal structure, functions, embryogenesis, development, growth, aging, death, and actions of human body
  2. Show understanding of the knoweldge of the Causes, natural history, risk factors, and prevention of diseases.
  3. Show understanding of the Patient Care principles (Nonpharmcological,pharmacologic therapies, radiation therapies, Intervention which include surgical treatments and alternative medicine ).
  4. 4.Show understanding of Epidemiology, demography and behavioral sciences and the impact of globalization,travel and the breath taking advancing technology .

Cognitive skills(CS)

5.Explains the scientific knowledge (e.g., physiology, social sciences, mechanism of disease) for normal function, common and complex medical conditions a

2. The Patient Care (PC) /Skills/pyschomotor competencies

The student must be able to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment ,prevention of health problems and the promotion of health .

The chief competencies are :

1.To demonstrate  skilfull Patient interview which should include the sociopsychological  backgrounds and impact .

2.To demonstrate the skills of Physical examination techniques and the skils of identifying and interpreting the findings on adults (including pregnant women) and children.

3.To demonstrate the ability of problem solving , reasoning and  and offering a list of prioritized causes and their likelihood

  1. To demonstrate the ability to best utilize and compile the bedside procedures and obtaining specimens of human fluids and secretions

5.To demonstrate the ability to plan ,ask for and interpret the findings of commonly used investigations;  imaging , blood,biochemical ,micorbiology and histopathology.

  1. To demonstrate the ability to take part in the acute care which includes emergency and intensive care

7.To demonstrate the competecny of CPR, basic and advanced life and trauma patient support(BLS,ALS&ATLS)

  1. To demonstrate the skills of safe prescribing ,considering the comorbid conditions and polypharmacy

9.To demonstrate the baility to take part in primary care, and  prevention campaigns

10.To demonstrate the  ability to   take part in long-term follow-up and rehabilitation of chronic disorders.

  1. To demonstrate understanding the managment of terminal patient and palliative care

3 -Interpersonal and Communication Skills (ICS)

The students  must demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that result in the effective exchange of information and collaboration with patients, their families, and health professionals. Students are expected to:

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the public, as appropriate, across a broad range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, other health professionals, and health related agencies
  • Work effectively as a member or leader of a health care team or other professional group
  • Maintain comprehensive, timely, and legible medical records, if applicable.

4.Professionalism (P)

The students  must demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities and an adherence to ethical principles. Students  are expected to demonstrate:

  • Compassion, integrity, and respect for others
  • Responsiveness to patient needs that supersedes self-interest
  • Respect for patient privacy and autonomy
  • Accountability to patients, society and the profession
  • Pateint safety and concerns
  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to a diverse patient population, including but not limited to diversity in gender, age, culture, race, religion, disabilities, and sexual orientation.

5.Practice-Based Learning and Improvement (PBLI)

Students must demonstrate the ability to investigate and evaluate the care of patients, to appraise and assimilate scientific evidence, and to continuously improve patient care based

on constant self-evaluation and life-long learning. Students  are expected to develop skills and habits to be able to meet the following goals:

  • Identify strengths, deficiencies, and limits in one’s knowledge and expertise (self-assessment and reflection)
  • Set learning and improvement goals
  • Identify and perform appropriate learning activities
  • Systematically analyze practice using quality improvement (QI) methods, and implement changes with the goal of practice improvement
  • Incorporate formative evaluation feedback into daily practice
  • Locate, appraise, and assimilate evidence from scientific studies related to  patients’ health problems (evidence-based medicine)
  • Use information technology to optimize learning(Websites,apps,search engines,SPP,excel.etc) and show the ability to Create and keep electronic medical records
  • Participate in the education of patients, families, younger students,and other health professionals.

6.Systems-Based Practice (SBP)

Students  must demonstrate an awareness of and responsiveness to the larger context and system of health care, as well as the ability to call effectively on other resources in the system to provide optimal health care.

Students are expected to:

  • Work effectively in various health care delivery settings and systems relevant to the clinical speciality
  • Coordinate patient care within the health care system relevant to the clinical speciality
  • Incorporate considerations of cost awareness and risk-benefit analysis in patient and/or population-based care as appropriate
